You will see most people talking about their pre-workout drinks. But, what drink would actually help you recover from the beating you just gave yourself in the gym or on the field?
Your muscles have some pretty specific post-training needs. First, they could really use a nice flood of branched chain amino acids now rather than whey protein, which needs to be digested. Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) don’t need to be digested and are readily available to the body. During intense periods of training, your body makes stress hormones that will break down muscle tissue when those levels get too high. Branch chain amino acids will help keep these stress hormones in check and help prevent that hard earned muscle tissue from degrading. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and proteins are the building blocks of life—so if you are building yourself, then these supplements are exquisitely helpful. I would even go as far as to say they are crucial!
Second, your muscles run on a fuel called glycogen. After a hard training session, that glycogen gets spent like a group of drunken teenagers having a night on the town with their dad’s credit cards. Fast absorbing carbohydrates (not the typical slow digesting ones like oatmeal and sweet potatoes) I’m talking rocket fuel here folks…which is where Karbolyn comes in. Karbolyn converts more quickly into glycogen than your typical sugary sports drink, which makes it the ideal post-workout drink! Plus, it’s DARN YUMMY.
Last but not least, I’ve included a serving of Glutamine capsules. Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid your body makes. However, during hard training it gets sucked up faster than it can be produced, and it can take up to six days for it to be replaced. If you plan on exercising at all for the rest of the week, you can bet your glutamine stores are depleted. Your entire body needs glutamine, and it’s an important component of your digestive and immune system. It also makes up a whopping 61 percent of your muscle! Like BCAAs, glutamine helps prevent muscle breakdown (catabolism), as well as helping to support the natural synthesis of human growth hormone. HGH helps you put on muscle and keep the fat at bay. Yay!
Athletes who train hard can be susceptible to ‘overtraining syndrome’, which can suppress their immune systems, resulting in frequent colds. Glutamine helps protect you against this. Normally, glutamine is taken in powder form, but the scientists at EFX Sports have invented a highly concentrated form of glutamine called Glutazorb® that absorbs easier because it’s pH-Correct®. It’s also actually in a capsule so you can more easily control the dose.
